![]() The first settlement that was found in Cyprus is dated from 10th century B.C. If the date is correct, this settlement will become the oldest evidence of the voyages in the Mediterranean area. In archeologist's opinion, a settlement, which was situated close to Ayia Napa - a famous resort in the east of the island, served as temporary retreat for the traveller from the continent. At that time Cyprus was uninhabited, that's why first travellers stopped there for short period of time. Confirmation of that is the absence of any signs of household activity, except left-off implements used by newcomers most probably for fishing. The settlement near Ayia Napa was accidentally found by American archeologist Albert Ammermann from the Colgate University, New York spending holidays in this resort with his family. Now the rapid building villas has been started in this area. It's quite possibly that other interesting discoveries can be found here during these constructions. A big inflow of tourists from Great Brittain is expected in Cyprus in 2007. This forecast is made by mane British travel agencies like Tul, First Choice, MyTravel and Thomas Cook. They consider that this choice is made because of safety and high quality service. We should mention that British tour operators do not intend to work with the occupied territories of the Island, still preferring free Cyprus. There are many cyprus villas that were built by British people. This is a very profitable business, because property in Cyprus becomes more expensive. |
